As a former collegiate athlete who has had his own personal battles with weight fluctuation, I can attest that losing weight is really not as difficult as many people believe it to be. Many people in America feel as though they are always losing the battle of weight management, when the truth is they may just be using the wrong weapons. Very often, people choose the quick and easy over the long term disciplined path. The easy “fad” of the moment route often equates to short term weight loss and instant gratification, while in the long run many put on the original weight lost, plus more.

So why say no to the infomercial for the “Ab Lounge” the “Ab Doer” and others? I know my own mother couldn’t and hasn’t as she has stock piled artillery of the wrong weaponry; only to ask herself; why isn’t this working? The truth is every product and easy road has its place. Its place is either in the garbage, if you plan on using this as your only method for weight loss, or as one tool of many in a weight management plan. In a balanced weight management plan, a person must have a few necessary essentials; exercise, portion control, a balanced meal plan, good sleep habits, and commitment. Without a correct balance of all parts, effective and permanent weight loss will almost never occur.

Before deciding what is best for you, you must first make a conscious commitment to a lifestyle change. The old saying of its not a diet, it’s a live-it holds true. You must take the approach that you cannot change your habits once, see results and revert back to your previous state as intrinsic motivation and dedication are by far the most difficult part of the weight loss process. Once you believe in yourself, you need to formulate a dietary plan. A few basic rules of setting up a diet that you can work with are; eat heavy early, small portion sizes, snack healthy often and eat to stay energized. Eating heavier at breakfast and lighter as the day progresses will help your body with natural digestion and burning of calories and fat. Keeping portion sizes during meals at about the size of your hand and during snacks the size of a fist will allow you to eat enough for energy but not enough to feel full and docile. Eating healthy during snack periods with a mix of protein and carbohydrates will work perfectly.
